Contributing Factors in Violent Youth Behaviour: A Study in the Limpopo Province, South Africa

Background: Violent behaviour in youth is regarded as a significant public health problem associated with severe physical and psychological consequences. Despite the availability of rehabilitation programmes rendered at child care centres (CYCC's) Limpopo Province, South Africa, there an escalation repetition violent behaviours among due to some underlying socio-economic factors. Objective: The study sought explore describe factors contributing youth. Methods: A qualitative, explorative, descriptive research design was used. non-probability, purposive sampling method used select participants this study. population consisted youth, from age 15-20 years old, who were admitted behaviours. Focus group discussions in-depth individual interviews collect data participants. semi-structured interview guide focus discussion until saturation which occurred after interviewing 48 Data analysed following Tesch’s open code analysis technique. Measures ensure trustworthiness ethical principles adhered to. Results: Two themes emerged data, namely, CYCCs effectiveness for CYCCs. Eight sub-themes derived two main themes. home environment, influence delinquent peers, availability, misuse drugs alcohol most cited Province. study's findings revealed that had little knowledge impact has on victim, themselves, their families, society. Conclusion: Rehabilitation will have better outcomes by involving youth's family, especially parents/guardians. Also, violence policymakers need emphasise family education one crucial prevention strategies vulnerable
